Daytrip Sedalia - Blaze Your Own Soft Adventure!


9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m
Sedalia Railroad Heritage ExhibitKaty Depot Historic Site - Sedalia's Official Welcome Center. The Sedalia Depot, one of the largest depots between Kansas City and St. Louis and is the home for the Sedalia Chamber of Commerce, Convention & Visitors Bureau. Located inside the Historic Depot is the Railroad Heritage Exhibits which represent a non-traditional approach to interpretation. Period buildings serve as exhibit cases and put a face on Sedalia's history and heart. The facility is located near the center of Sedalia and links the north and south trail heads of the Katy Trail State Park. The Depot Store which offers Sedalia Souvenirs and Missouri-made products is also located inside the Historic Katy Depot.

10:30 a.m. Depart the Katy Depot for Sedalia's Heritage Trail.

10:45 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Hotel Bothwell
- Conveniently located in downtown Sedalia at Fourth and Ohio, this historic site is named to the Department of Interior Register of Historic Places. The seven-story building operates as a hotel, and offers retail and commercial office space. The Hotel was renovated in 1999. Pettis County Circuit Courtroom Mural Liberty Center Association for the ArtsProject - St. Louis muralist and restorationist, Barbara Manes Campbell, was commissioned to complete murals in the courtroom depicting Pettis County's history. The subject matter of each panel is arranged chronically and reads from top to bottom, left to right. Liberty Center Association for the Arts - A renovated 1920's theatre in downtown Sedalia, serves as the center for performing and cultural arts, and visual art exhibits in their gallery 111. The Sedalia Community Theatre's all volunteer troupe stages three productions annually which showcases local talent. Sedalia Public Library - The first library to receive an Andrew Carnegie Grant in the state of Missouri, the structure was dedicated in 1901. Boasting marble floors, open fireplaces, white oak woodwork, it is made of terra cotta and Carthage stone.

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Lunch Break.
Enjoy a homecooked meal at the The Ivy Cottage Tea Room, or a trip to the 5th Street Brew Pub, feast on lunch buffet at Ivory Grille, or a piece of pie at the Maple Leaf Tea Room, all located in the Historic Downtown District.

1:15 p.m. - Depart the Historic Downtown District.

1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. Bothwell Lodge State Historic Site
Located seven miles north on US 65 stands the former home of John H. Bothwell. Built in sections, the castle-like structure was constructed using native rock from the estate's 180 acre grounds.

2:45 p.m. - Depart the Bothwell Lodge

3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. - End your day with a leisurely tour of the Daum Museum of Contemporary Art
Located on the campus of State Fair Community College. Five galleries exhibiting paintings, drawings, prints, photographs and sculptures are featured. The museum also presents a full calendar of changing exhibitions in multiple gallery spaces.

10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Your first stop on any visit to Sedalia should be the Historic Katy Depot, located at 600 East Third Street. This renovated railroad station now houses the Sedalia Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention & Visitors Bureau on the second floor. The Visitor Information Center, Sedalia Railroad Heritage Exhibit and Depot Store are on the first floor. With a mixture of motion sensor displays, audio-visual presentations, and the Rag-Tag Train public art piece there is something for everyone at the railroad heritage exhibit in the historic Katy Depot.

10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Those who enjoy art and antique shopping a visit to downtown Sedalia is a must.
Pottery & Glass at Art Impressions GalleryTaking a leisurely stroll down "antique row" you'll find shops that mix the old and the new. Fine arts are showcased at Art Impressions Gallery at 412 S. Ohio Ave. Visitors will find sculpture, pottery, jewelry and many framed monotypes, oils, photography and giclée prints. The Maple Leaf Antique Mall, 110 West Main Street is one of six antique shops downtown. Maple Leaf offers up antiques, collectables and much more.

12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m.
The Ivy Cottage Tea Room featured by the Missouri Division of Tourism summer campaign. "Sample Missouri One Bite at a Time" from daily specials to soup and sandwiches the Tea Room is your choice for home cooking, don't forget to save room for their famous pie.

Surrounded in an elegant polished atmosphere, pasta-lovers may order one of many tasty dishes. Steaks and seafood are also on the menu. No one needs to leave Sedalia without experiencing Kehde's Barbeque at 20th St. and Limit Ave. Kehde's, decorated in a railroad theme, is a unique dinning experience. Besides barbecue, eating specialty sandwiches such as the plate-sized 'Miss Piggy" or "Fat Albert" is only part of the fun of Kehde's.
