The Sedalia Public Library, located in a beautifully preserved Carnegie library building at 311 W. 3rd Street, has served the community for more than a century. Established as a public library in 1895, it became Missouri’s first Carnegie-funded library when industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie donated $50,000 for construction of the current building, which opened in 1901. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the library features impressive architecture, including marble floors, terra cotta details, and antique oak woodwork. Visitors are welcome to explore this historic landmark and can pick up a free self-guided tour at the front desk while enjoying the library’s collections, programs, and community services.
