The city is proud to be known as the home of the Missouri State Fair as well as playing an integral part of forming Missouri history, from cattle drives to railroads.  A good place to start your next visit is at the Katy Depot that serves as Sedalia’s Visitor Center and a major trailhead for the 240-mile-long Katy Trail State Park. Inside the depot, exhibits explain how the railroads (4 railroads intersected here) and cattle drives influenced Sedalia’s history. A tribute to this history is found at “Trail’s End,” a landmark that depicts a cowboy herding long-horn cattle along the Sedalia Branch of the Shawnee Trail. It is located on the fairgrounds. Sedalia has cultural attractions including the Hayden Liberty Center Association for the Arts, the Daum Museum of Contemporary Arts, and public art throughout the community including murals located in the City Hall, and the County Court House. The Scott Joplin Ragtime Festival held annually in late May to early June downtown Sedalia celebrates this unique musical heritage. Other points of interest include The Bothwell Lodge Historical SiteChelsea’s AntiquesNostalgia Vintage Apparel, and many more.
