Sedalia CVB – Executive Director (Job Description)

The Executive Director is the chief leader of the Sedalia Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), responsible for promoting Sedalia as a premier destination while overseeing marketing, finances, staff, partnerships, and serving as the primary spokesperson to the Board, community, and tourism partners.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the CVB’s vision and long-term strategy in partnership with the Board and Tourism
    Commission.
  • Set organizational priorities and ensure progress toward goals.

Operations

  • Oversee daily operations and Katy Depot staff.
  • Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain operational policies and procedures.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage the annual budget.
  • Oversee visitor services grants and group/event incentives.
  • Provide accurate, timely financial reporting to the Board.

Staff & Board Relations

  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with the Board.
  • Prepare for and participate in Board meetings.

Community & External Relations

  • Serve as the primary representative of the CVB.
  • Lead marketing and communications efforts.
  • Build partnerships with tourism organizations, community leaders, businesses, event
    planners, and media.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven leadership and strategic planning ability.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with tourism promotion and grant writing.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make sound decisions under pressure.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, speaking, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Evening and weekend work required for travel shows, recruitment, and events.
  • Work settings vary from office to event environments.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $62,000 – $69,000 (based on experience)
  • Benefits:
    o 10 paid holidays
    o 6 days sick/personal leave annually (non-accumulative)
    o 40 hours vacation first year, increasing annually by 40 hours up to 160 hours
